The Edit
Finally, the time has come for us to wake from our winter slumber, pull back the curtains and see what is outside waiting for us to join in. The birds, bees + critters are calling to us. I especially love the fresh smell after spring rain showers that will make way for flowers to bloom in the coming months, bringing life back to the world and most importantly, hope. I have such a love for this time of year. The pastel colors bring me back to the sweetness of being young - playing in the dirt, picking flowers and laying in the grass, looking up at the sky dreamily. It can be so refreshing to tap into that sweet innocence + naiveté and reconnect with that ability to appreciate the simple, little things and look forward to bright times ahead.
Design Inspiration
Butter Yellow - ICC-90 - by Behr, not quite cream and not quite as yellow as you’d expect, but somewhere in between + so sweet you could dive into it like a bowl of frosting. This trendy color offers a gentle, sophisticated pop of color without being too overwhelming. It can be used as an accent color on cabinets, as seen here, or slather it everywhere and wrap yourself up in it’s creamy goodness. It makes me want a lemon cake real bad!
Why not treat your ceiling like an accent wall?! Transform it from something drab to an eye-catching design feature. Styling your ceiling can add drama, height + coziness to any room. Consider color-drenching (painting it the same color as the surrounding walls), painting it a high contrasting color or even decorating it with wallpaper or stencils. Don’t be afraid to get a little funky!

Mind
We’ve all heard of spring cleaning for your home but it’s a great time to do the same for your mental space. A cluttered mind can increase anxiety and stress and make it hard to focus on the task at hand. In the same way that our home is a collection of the things we have gathered, our mind is a collection of the impressions, thoughts and memories we have gathered. Without taking out the trash, we can easily feel overwhelmed and like there is no space to operate. Are there thoughts and emotions you have been neglecting to address? Discard the things that don’t serve you anymore in exactly the same way that you would do so in your home. Yoga and meditation are designed to do just that, but if you don’t have a practice you can try journaling. A simple stream of consciousness style in which you try to fill up a page or two with whatever comes to mind, will work wonders for clearing out dormant mental clutter.
An overwhelmed mind can sometimes mean you have taken on too many responsibilities. Creating lists can help to organize your tasks and keep them from running on a loop in your brain. Try your best to set healthy boundaries and create time and space for yourself at work + in your relationships. Take stock of your connections, habits and routines and release what isn’t serving you. It’s okay to say goodbye to old ways of doing things and find new ones that feel more aligned with your current lifestyle. It’s also okay to say no when your plate is getting too full.
