March 2026 | Issue 3

The Edit

The Chinese zodiac follows a 12-year cycle with each year represented by one of twelve animals that correspond to one of five elements, each with their own unique traits. March marks the first month of the Year of the Horse. To be more specific, 2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse, a rarity that only comes once every 60 years.

This significant event is said to symbolize intense, fast-paced change, passion and at times unruly energy, blending the horse’s independent, lively free-spiritedness with fiery tenacity to bring about transformation and renewal.

This year encourages action, proactivity + trusting yourself without hesitation or wavering. Though that may come with its challenges, it can also be a time for adventure. With this new energy in mind, think of yourself on a fiery white stallion with the wind at your back and your passion fueling you, forge ahead and don’t look back, all the odds are in your favor.

Design Inspiration

Never underestimate what a little of color can do. Heritage red - HC 181 - from Benjamin Moore, is one of their best selling colors, and rightfully so. It is a classic red that instantly brings energy + life. We love it as a trim color, for doors, interior or exterior, on shutters or a statement wall. And if you’re feeling bold, it’s great for color drenching.

No better time than the Year of the Fire Horse to try out the Chinese practice of feng shui + add more harmony into your life. This practice works with nature, optimizing the flow of energy to create balance and invite prosperity. Of course, there is so much to uncover with feng shui but here’s just a few of the basics. Declutter your space to allow energy to flow freely, keep the entry way of your home clear + free of unnecessary items, remove anything broken or damaged, arrange furniture so areas are walkable and feel open and absolutely, no mirrors or televisions facing the bed. Mirrors are said to create active energy, so having them face your bed would make for restless sleep. All of these rules exist with the goal of creating a space that is calm + light and free of stagnant or negative energy.

Mind

It may be the month of St. Patrick’s Day but when it comes to luck, studies have shown that there is much more to it than just simply having good luck or bad luck. Through interviewing several hundred people who considered themselves extremely lucky or unlucky, psychologist, Richard Wiseman, arrived at these four principles.

Firstly, people who consider themselves lucky create, notice + act upon the chance opportunities in their lives. They have a relaxed attitude toward life and are open to new experiences. Next, lucky people make successful decisions by using their intuition and gut feelings and also work to boost their intuition. Third, lucky people's expectations about the future help them fulfill their dreams + ambitions because they are optimistic! And lastly, lucky people are able to transform their bad luck into good fortune because they do not dwell on it. They believe things will work out in the end and take steps to prevent bad things from happening in the future.

As we see from Wiseman’s study, “luck” is not merely a matter of chance but rather something we create for ourselves through our responses to life’s situations. When bad things happen to you, you can choose to let them discourage you or you can believe good things are still possible. At the end of the day, only you can decide to get back on the horse + try again.

Recently whipped up a bowl similar to this one and fell in love! These roasted veggie za’atar bowls feature cauliflower, sweet potatoes, lemon + cabbage, all in season this month. These flavors combine to make a mouth-watering meal inspired by Middle Eastern cuisine. Feel free to add in even more seasonal veggies like asparagus, broccoli, carrots + brussel sprouts.
